Yang's exploration of modern calligraphy began in the 1990s, evolving over years of experimentation until reaching maturity in the 2000s. According to an art scholar, the key turning point was his exposure to broader artistic elements like art history, aesthetics, and performance arts, which inspired his cross-disciplinary calligraphic works. After studying abroad in Europe, Yang created a series of modern calligraphic art from the millennium onward, including themes like "essence of modern calligraphy", "color compositions", "collage", and "three-dimensional form". Each series exhibits a distinct aesthetic core and powerful, grand artistic expression.
